Jay Cheng, CEO of Icon Jewels:
We chose X-Cart after scrapping a project that was 90% finished in Magento. We had to offer our customer a shopping experience that was fast even as the shopping cart scaled to over 100 line items. All other carts we tested showed huge performance degradation at about 50 line items AFTER server and code optimization. X-Cart was unique in the way it stored the shopping cart information in digitized field. That allowed our users' shopping carts to grow to over 300 line items without fail. While many of the newer open source carts offer bells and whistles like a prettied up backend interface and layered object oriented code, X-Cart is a time-tested workhorse that screams when pushed. We chose to implement over NginX, xcache, and php-fpm to make the site blaze. We would have needed triple the hardware horsepower to achieve one tenth of the results in other systems.
In the end, we are happy. The support team has been wonderful. Be prepared for a hard initial learning curve. Documentation is lacking, but your developer should get the point after bumping around for a few weeks.
